Advocates of bullfighting state that the movement of defending bulls is a passing fad. However, this essay proves with historical evidence centuries of anti-bullfighting thinking, silenced in our country. Spanish anti-bullfighting thinking dates back to the thirteenth century. Since then relevant jurists, philosophers, painters, clergy, military, politicians, journalists and historians have left their anti-bullfighting ideas. Women also have an important role in this historical journey, not only as defenders of animals in general but of bulls in particular. The current Spanish society will be surprised by the weight and the existence of Spanish anti-bullfighting thinking that has been produced along these centuries and should not be forgotten.Los defensores de la tauromaquia defienden que el movimiento de defensa de los toros es una moda pasajera. Sin embargo este ensayo demuestra con rigor histórico siglos de pensamiento antitaurino silenciado en nuestro país. El pensamiento antitaurino español se remonta nada menos que al siglo XIII. Desde entonces relevantes juristas, filósofos, pintores, religiosos, militares, políticos, periodistas e historiadores dejaron su impronta antitaurina. Las mujeres también tienen un papel relevante en este recorrido histórico, no sólo como defensoras de los animales en general sino de los toros en particular. La sociedad española actual se sorprenderá del peso y de la entidad del pensamiento antitaurino español que se ha ido formando en estos siglos y que no debe caer en el olvido.
