The purpose of this article is to determine and analyze the limits to the exercise of potestas variandi within the framework of administrative contracting in Chile. To achieve this, I will start by identifying the elements that make up the material content of the aforementioned power, analyzing each one of them, in order to discuss the limits of potestas variandi in specific cases, which in turn depend upon the way in which such elements contribute to the formation and motivation of the decision to modify administrative contracts. Furthermore, I propose a general perspective of the limits of potestas variandi.Este artículo tiene por objeto determinar y analizar los límites que debe observar el ejercicio de la potestas variandi en el marco de la contratación administrativa en Chile. Para el logro de aquello, partiré por identificar los elementos que configuran el contenido material de la citada potestad y analizar cada uno de ellos, puesto que el modo en el que concurren a la formación y motivación de la decisión modificatoria del contrato administrativo es lo que permite determinar y analizar los límites del ejercicio de la potestas variandi en cada caso concreto. Finalmente, ofrezco una reflexión general en torno a los límites de la potestas variandi.
