In the first part of his paper the author is dealing with the Roman law tradition in the kingdom of Hungary in the middle ages. In the second part of the article the subsequent fate of Roman law is analyzed. The author points out the signficance of Roman law in Hungary both in the civil law doctrine and in the lenghty process of codification of private law. He emphasizes also the role of the civil law doctrine based on Roman law in the current recodification of private (civil) law in Hungary.En la primera parte de su trabajo, el autor se ocupa de la tradición del derecho romano en el reino de Hungría durante la Edad Media. En la segunda parte del artículo, el destino ulterior del derecho romano se analiza. El autor señala la importancia del derecho romano en Hungría, tanto en la doctrina del derecho civil y en la prolongada realización del proceso de codificación del derecho privado. Se destaca también el papel de la doctrina del derecho civil basado en el derecho romano en la nueva codificación privada (civil) actual Hungría.
