DescriptionThis work explores the concern for the deliberation’s conditions in Democracy during the second half of the 18th Century, considering the idea of ‘people’ as a key concept for the cornerstone of political modern thought: the premise of popular sovereignty. First it explores the conceptual distinction between ‘le peuple’ and ‘la populace’ in French tradition, taking into account some specific articles of the ‘Encyclopédie’ edited by D. Diderot and J. D’Alembert. Then it follows the tension’s trail between that premise of popular sovereignty and fear of numerous assemblies in American tradition analyzing J. Madison and A. Hamilton’s thought; finally it studies that tension in British tradition by taking the case of W. Godwin.en-US
DescriptionEste trabajo explora la preocupación por las condiciones de deliberación en Democracia en la de la segunda mitad del S. XVIII, a partir de la noción de ‘pueblo’ como concepto clave de la piedra angular del pensamiento político moderno: la premisa de la soberanía popular. Primero explora la distinción conceptual entre ‘le peuple’ y ‘la populace’ en la tradición francesa, tomando algunos artículos seleccionados de la ‘Encyclopédie’ que editaran D. Diderot y J. D’Alembert; luego rastrea la tensión entre aquella premisa de la soberanía popular y el miedo a las asambleas numerosas en la tradición norteamericana mediante el examen del pensamiento de J. Madison y A. Hamilton; y finalmente se analiza esa misma tensión en la tradición británica tomando el caso de W. Godwin.es-ES
