The author of this article presents a proposal for human rights bioethics and, at the same time, to analyse UNESCO's Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights from a Latin American perspective. To do so, she begins with a brief historical and conceptual review of bioethics, highlighting the predominance of the principled approach based on four pillars: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice. Later on, the author reflects on the criticisms that this approach has received from other perspectives, mainly from Latin American bioethics, which questions its universality and its aptitude to solve the ethical problems of the region. After the above, it is stressed that the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights represents significant progress in the defence of human rights in the field of bioethics. Finally, the contributions of the aforementioned Declaration to the advancement of bioethics in a Latin American context are highlighted.La autora del artículo presenta una propuesta de la bioética de los derechos humanos y, al mismo tiempo, analiza la Declaración Universal sobre Bioética y Derechos Humanos de Unesco desde una perspectiva latinoamericana. Para ello, comienza con un breve repaso histórico y conceptual de la bioética, resaltando el predominio del enfoque principialista el cual se basa en cuatro pilares: autonomía, beneficencia, no maleficencia y justicia. Más adelante, la autora aborda las críticas que este enfoque ha recibido desde otras perspectivas, principalmente desde la bioética latinoamericana, que pone en duda su universalidad y su aptitud para resolver los problemas éticos de la región. Luego de lo mencionado, se destaca que la Declaración Universal sobre Bioética y Derechos Humanos representa un progreso significativo para la defensa de los derechos humanos en el campo de la bioética. Finalmente, se señalan los aportes de la Declaración citada para el avance de una bioética en clave latinoamericana.
